Reporting a bug in Geneteka
The form is used to report any discrepancies found between the content of the act and the index in Geneteka.
Before submitting a bug, please read the indexing instructions:
https://geneteka.genealodzy.pl/jak-indeksowac-U-Z.php
https://geneteka.genealodzy.pl/jak-indeksowac-M.php Please familiarize yourself with the rules for submitting bugs to indexes in Geneteka:
-
We only submit bugs via this form
The link to the form is available from the indexed row as a "P" icon, clicking it takes you to that form.
We do not send bugs by email to the admin.
-
We do not submit bugs to indexes in the basic format (without parents data)
We do not report bugs to indexes prepared in the basic format – without parents data (of course, this refers to those records in which parents data appear but have not been indexed), regardless of whether they are prepared from an index or directly from records. Such an index is intended for expansion (supplementing with parents data). The expanded index will completely overwrite/replace the basic index, together with the bugs introduced there. So if someone is very bothered by a bug in such an index – they can report for the expansion of the entire yearbook.
If the index in full format (i.e. with parents data) does not have optional data listed (date or place), do not report their addition to individual items. You can report to the admin to supplement the entire year group (years) with this information.
-
We only report bugs
A bug, however, is only a discrepancy between the content of the act and the content of the index. Please do not send reports such as: "it is true that the index is the same as in the act, but I know that the priest made a mistake, because this is my ancestor and the correctly written surname should be "xyz" / "in the baptismal records of the children of this couple, the mother's surname is xyz".
-
Link to the act
If the metric that the index with the bug refers to is somewhere on the Internet, we ask that you include a link in the form that leads directly to the metric. Please do not expect that the administrators will waste several/several minutes to find a scan of a specific metric (you can multiply this number by a dozen/several dozen bugs per week, this will make a lot of sense).
If the metric is not available online, please send a scan of it to the admin, citing the reported bug.
We reserve the right to reject a bug solely on the basis of the lack of a link to the act or the absence of an act at all.
-
Multiple bugs in one index
If the index from a given parish, of some specific years, contains many bugs, we strongly encourage you to apply for verification of such an index, and not to submit a dozen or so/dozens of bugs to one index. This rule applies absolutely to authors submitting bugs to their own indexes.
-
Bugs to notes
In the case of the "Notes" field in the index, you can only correct data that is entered there incorrectly by the indexer and results directly from the act. We do not add any new data and we do not correct data that is in this field and does not result directly from the act.
We thank you very much on behalf of the admins for understanding the above and encourage you to submit bugs. This is a very important tool that in some way replaces index verification, but to function effectively, it should be used with an understanding of the rules of indexing to Geneteka.
